It all started on January 14, 2025, when Ambassadors
Meron Abate and
Betel Addisu founded Women Techmakers Ethiopia with one vision: to create a space where women feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow in tech.
The beginnings were humble: virtual sessions and conversations where women shared their journeys in Tech.
But what started with two leaders soon grew into a vibrant community as our Core Team came together.
Ribka,
Eyerusalem,
Ruth,
Tsion,
Ayida,
Eden,
Eleanor,
Yeabsira,
Hildana,
Gabriela, and
Eden each brought a distinct voice, skill set, and energy, turning a shared vision into tangible momentum.
“The word ‘impossible’ doesn’t exist within WTM,” one teammate often says. Our mentorship sessions proved it: we took bold leaps, sent cold messages, and refused to self-reject. Soon, tech leaders from South Korea, the Arab region, Africa, and the United States joined us, showing how our journeys and aspirations connect beyond borders.
Then came IWD 2026, bringing our vision to life in a space where technology, community, and Ethiopian culture came together.
Since then, we’ve continued to grow through workshops, partnerships, mentorship, campaigns, and hackathons.
And we’re just getting started!
We’re excited to welcome our newly selected Community Leads, creating more opportunities for women to contribute, collaborate, and lead.
If you ask what WTM Ethiopia has truly created, the answer is simple:
A space where a casual idea on a Monday can become a real project weeks later.
A space where you can arrive knowing no one and leave with collaborators, mentors, and friends.
A space where a young woman can see someone building in technology and think, "Maybe I can do that too."
What started as an idea has become a living community, and we are continuing to build it together.
