An interactive session featuring distinguished international academics participating in the 5th Tashkent Business and Economics Conference (TBEC) 2026.

Professor Timothy Lee

Professor Lee teaches at the Faculty of International Tourism and Management at City University of Macau and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Tourism Research (SSCI). He has published over 300 academic papers, including more than 120 in SSCI-indexed journals. His research explores health-oriented tourism, cultural heritage, food tourism, destination marketing, and tourism development.

Emeritus Professor Datuk Norma Mansor

Professor Mansor serves as President of the Malaysian Economic Association and the Social Wellbeing Research Centre (SWRC) at Universiti Malaya. Her expertise spans social protection, retirement security, ageing, and public policy. She has advised international organisations including the World Bank, ILO, OECD, UNDP, and Asian Development Bank.

Dr Karen Jackson

Dr Jackson is Reader in Economics and College Director of International Development at Westminster Business School, where she leads global engagement initiatives. Her research examines international trade, finance, and development, including trade integration and exchange-rate movements.

🎯 Requirements:
• International graduates or final-year students who meet the admission requirements for a Master’s programme in Germany
• A relevant Bachelor’s degree qualifying you for the chosen Master’s programme
• Applicants must provide proof of proficiency in the language of instruction
• Applicants must not have been resident in Germany for more than 15 months at the application deadline
• The chosen Master’s programme must meet DAAD scholarship requirements
🌍 Language Requirements:
• English-taught programme → IELTS, TOEFL or another recognised English certificate
• German-taught programme → recognised German-language certificate
• The required level depends on the chosen university and programme

The Cashflow Game Localization Project has officially started! 🚀

On September 20, the Global Shapers Tashkent Hub, together with the Economics Fundamentals Initiative (EFI) and the Economic Students Association (ESA), held the first working meeting for the Cashflow Game Localization Project.

The meeting brought together members of the ESA team and Global Shapers Tashkent Hub members for an introductory session with Temur Makhkamov. Together, the team reviewed the Cashflow game, explored its key concepts and mechanics, and discussed the next steps for its localization.

Over the coming weeks, the team will work on developing an Uzbek version of the game, translating and adapting its content to make financial concepts clearer, more accessible, and relevant for Uzbek-speaking participants.

The project is being carried out in partnership with the Economics Fundamentals Initiative (EFI) and the Economic Students Association (ESA), bringing together different teams around a shared goal of making financial education more accessible.

A big thank you to Temur Makhkamov, Hub members, ESA team members, and volunteers for contributing their time, knowledge, and energy to the project. 🤝

🤖 AI just took someone’s job offer. Was it yours?

Recently, https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2026/05/13/is-ai-putting-graduates-out-of-work-already raised a question: is AI already putting graduates out of work?
The strongest impact is currently seen in routine and highly automated fields, especially programming-related majors like computer science and information systems. In the US, graduates from AI-exposed fields are already facing sharper declines in full-time employment.

📈But economics field tells a different story
Why? Because AI can process data, but economies still need people who can interpret markets, analyse policies, forecast trends, and make strategic decisions under uncertainty.

And this matters even more in Uzbekistan and Central Asia, where sectors like finance, trade, logistics, infrastructure, and digital transformation are growing rapidly.
